Barnett Scorpion Clutch For Harley Big Twin 1941-1984
Barnett Scorpion Clutch: Modern Precision for Vintage 4-Speed Power
The Barnett Scorpion Clutch is the ultimate drivetrain solution for 1941–1984 Harley-Davidson Big Twins. For decades, the weak link in the Knucklehead, Panhead, and Shovelhead platform has been the original clutch design, which is prone to wobble, drag, and slipping under load. The Scorpion system completely modernizes the 4-speed primary, replacing the old-fashioned “stud” hub with a precision-engineered billet assembly that can handle everything from a daily rider to a high-displacement stroker motor.
Billet Aluminum Construction & Superior Stability
Unlike the cast components of the past, the Scorpion features a CNC-machined billet aluminum pressure plate and a high-strength steel hub. This construction ensures perfect balance and concentricity, eliminating the “clutch chatter” and vibration common in older bikes. The hub is designed to fit your stock-style clutch basket, providing a “drop-in” performance upgrade that transforms the way your bike shifts and responds.
Tuneable Lever Feel with Coil Spring Technology
One of the greatest advantages of the Scorpion Clutch is its adjustability. Instead of a single, stiff diaphragm spring, the Scorpion uses six heavy-duty coil springs. Barnett includes multiple sets of springs with different tension rates, allowing you to “tune” the lever pull to your preference. You can achieve a light, easy pull for around-town cruising or maximum spring pressure for high-torque drag racing applications.
Unrivaled Friction Surface Area
The Scorpion kit utilizes a significantly larger clutch pack than the OEM setup. By using Carbon Fiber friction plates and tempered steel drive plates, the kit provides a massive increase in total surface area. Carbon fiber is chosen for its incredible heat tolerance and durability, ensuring that the clutch won’t “fade” during heavy stop-and-go traffic or aggressive high-speed runs.
Fitment and Compatibility
Designed specifically for the 4-speed Big Twin era:
- Fits: 1941–1984 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead, Panhead, and Shovelhead models.
