Moving beyond the limitations of fixed, solid-mount rotors, this Arlen Ness upgrade provides a racing-inspired floating architecture that ensures your brake lever remains firm and your stopping power remains 100% consistent, even under the most demanding riding conditions.
The Floating Advantage for Modern Braking
Modern Harleys, particularly Touring models and V-Rods, are equipped with powerful multi-piston calipers that generate significant heat. Standard solid rotors are prone to “heat-shock,” where the metal expands but has nowhere to go, resulting in warped discs and a pulsing sensation at the lever. The Arlen Ness Jagged Rotor features a Full-Floating design. The 420 stainless steel outer friction ring is joined to a billet aluminum inner carrier via stainless steel float pins. This allows the outer ring to expand and contract independently of the wheel hub, virtually eliminating warping and ensuring the rotor remains perfectly centered between the pads at all times.
Precision Engineered “Jagged” Design
The “Jagged” perimeter is not merely an aesthetic choice—it is functional engineering. The aggressive, CAD-cut angles serve to “wipe” the surface of the brake pads clean with every rotation. This removes the glaze, dust, and gases that can build up during heavy braking, ensuring that you always have a fresh, high-friction surface to grip. Universal 11.8″ (300mm) Fitment
This rotor is designed as a direct bolt-on replacement for the 11.8-inch (300mm) discs that became the Harley-Davidson standard in the mid-2000s. It features the standard 2.22″ center hole and is compatible with both 5/16″ and 3/8″ mounting hardware (check your specific application for bolt size):
- Touring Models (2008–2026): Fits Front applications for Road King, Street Glide, Road Glide, and Ultra Limited.
- Dyna Models (2006–2017): Fits Front applications on models like the Street Bob, Low Rider, and Fat Bob.
- Softail Models (2015–2017): Fits Front applications for the late-model Twin Cam Softails.
- V-Rod Models (2006–2017): Fits Front and Rear applications for VRSCA, VRSCDX, and VRSCF.
- Fitment Note: This is a 300mm rotor. It will not fit older models originally equipped with 11.5″ rotors unless the caliper is also relocated.
Installation and Pad Compatibility
To ensure the longevity of the polished stainless finish and the floating hardware, Arlen Ness recommends installing new brake pads with every rotor change. These rotors are fully compatible with all modern friction materials, including Sintered, Semi-Sintered, and Organic compounds. For a “show-bike” look that stays clean, we recommend a Carbon-Aramid pad which produces less abrasive dust. Always use new rotor bolts and apply a drop of blue thread-locker, torquing to factory specifications to ensure a safe and secure installation.
