The Burly Slammer Kit is a complete, budget-friendly suspension package designed to give a massive, aggressive drop to the front and rear of Harley-Davidson Touring models (FLH/FLT) from 1984 through 2013. This kit is the perfect solution for riders prioritizing a low, custom stance and better ground reach.
This period covers both the older 41mm fork Touring bikes (pre-2014) and the early Twin Cam models, offering a significant aesthetic and functional transformation.
Installation and Design Features
The kit is designed for relatively easy installation compared to other full suspension overhauls.
“Drop-In” Front Springs: The fork springs are a special design that allows for replacement without fully disassembling the fork legs, making the front-end drop a simple, quick process with basic tools.
Progressive Rate Springs: Both the front springs and the rear shocks feature progressive wound springs. These springs start softer for initial comfort and gradually stiffen to resist harsh bottoming, which is crucial given the greatly reduced suspension travel.
Rear Shock Adjustability: The 10.5″ rear shocks typically include a cam-style preload adjuster, allowing the rider to easily tune the firmness to compensate for passenger weight or luggage.
Fitment and Considerations
The most common part number for the chrome kit is B28-1004, covering most Touring models from this era (e.g., Road King, Electra Glide, Street Glide).
Fitment: Fits most Harley Touring models (FLH/FLT) from 1984 through 2013.
Exclusions: Generally does NOT fit models with air ride, hydraulic/self-leveling systems, or the rare factory cartridge-style forks found on some 2002-2005 models.
Important Trade-offs
Ground Clearance & Cornering: This is the most significant trade-off. Lowering the bike by 2-2.5 inches drastically reduces the available lean angle, meaning footboards and hard parts will scrape much sooner in corners.
Ride Quality: Due to the severe reduction in shock travel, the ride will be significantly firmer and harsher than stock, especially over rough roads.
Jiffy Stand: A shorter jiffy stand is highly recommended or may be required to ensure the bike leans securely when parked due to the reduced ride height.
