Lowboy Stance: Burly Fork Lowering Kit for Harley (1987–2015)

The Burly Fork Lowering Kit (often called the Lowboy kit) is a versatile front suspension modification designed to drop the front end of a massive range of Harley-Davidson models from 1987 through 2015.

Because this era covers many different models and fork sizes, Burly provides different part numbers depending on the fork diameter: 39mm, 41mm, or 49mm.
Key Features of the Burly Fork Lowering Kit

Lowering Options: The kit includes components that allow the installer to choose between a 1-inch or 2-inch drop in front ride height.

Progressive Rate Springs: A key component is the progressively wound fork springs. They are softer initially for comfort but stiffen rapidly to resist bottoming out on the reduced travel.

Improved Handling: The firmer springs help reduce front-end dive during hard braking, a common issue on stock Harley suspension.

“Drop-In” Design: The kit is designed to install with only minor fork disassembly (no need to completely remove the fork legs from the triple trees for all models), simplifying the installation process.
Important Trade-offs and Warnings

Ground Clearance: Lowering the front end reduces ground clearance and, more importantly, the available lean angle. Aggressive riders will scrape sooner in corners.

Touring Warning: Burly specifically advises Do Not lower FLH/FLT (Touring) models 2 inches. The maximum safe drop for these heavier models is typically 1 inch.

Required Maintenance: Installation typically requires draining the fork oil and involves replacing the internal rebound springs on the damper rod to achieve the desired drop height. It is a good time to check/replace your fork seals.

Jiffy Stand: You must check your motorcycle’s parking lean angle after lowering. A significant drop (especially 2 inches) may require a shorter kickstand for safe parking stability.
